if you build up some backlinks to your affiliate ref code ie: http//www.myaffiliate.com/=ref123 would this page get listed in the search engines?

At one time these links (depending on the type of link) did get picked up in the SE's. But they are usually knocked out rather quickly due to duplicate content penalties.

Well what you do is get a domain @ godaddy and use there mask url redirect option ...


And the just promote the domain you have .

I'd be reluctant to do that mainly due to commission thiefs.

A simple php redirection from one of your own domains using a 301 redirect will allow you to promote the page, not the affiliate link, and get link credit passed on while going direct to the sales landing page.

Though why you would want to add link credit to the sales page I don't know. Better to send to a hub page, article somewhere, or anything with some content that you own and link out from there.

Thanks for the reply. I don't actually want to do it I just wanted to know if it was possible, I saw it on a website and it was practically encouraging you to do it i was just curious if it could be done or if it was a bad thing thats all

I don't think it's a bad thing to do per se but I don't think it is a sensible thing to do.

I could be convinced otherwise with a good argument but I suspect that Ralph is correct when he says that they will be dumped under Google's 'Stupid SEO tricks' rules.

Google have stated that they don't penalise for duplicate content but they determine that the content with the most links must be the original for want of a better way to decide.

If you are going to go to all the trouble of creating backlinks it just makes more sense to me to be doing it for your own pages rather than a sales page.
