EWI 2.0 and its auto pinger setup whats the general best and overall basic cron command line example you can give?
There has to be one for randomized daily post time and can you post it here so others can use the basic idea as well. Jackrabbit can you get in on this from your experience? just the most basic cron command line will do for the moment, users can customise as they need to but a clear basic working example needs to be posted for this tool to work for all users. Thanks |

There is no such thing as a randomized cron.. I cron is set to fire at a very specific time and has Zero randomization ability...
to randomize a cron requires additional programming such as being used by the autocron program identified at http://autocron.info but due to heavy server loading you must be an EWI subscriber to sign up. The service is free... compliments of EWI, however if you have need for heavy services such as hundreds or thousands of pings per day.. then the system must be set up on your server and for that personalized service there is a nominal fee. You need to contact Andrew at EWI for an autorization code to be able to set up the free account... |

You can also search for "cron" and find about 100 pages discussing cron setup in detail.. or search google for 5 million pages on setting up crons... they are the same setup for sec as for any other thing....

AS per usual you gus never seem to really ever answer the question that was asked.
OK here: it can be randomized so maybe you dont know enough to help anyone. using a separator such as 1/60* * * * path to file would randomize the ping time within that hour and 1/60* 1/24* * * * path to file would make it also randomized per the hour of day plus randomly choosing a minute in that hour to ping. |

Since you came here asking for help, and already had all the answers before you came, would you please be willing to share the reference you used to find that the following will work actually randomize a cron.
1/60* 1/24* * * * I will be more than happy to say... "I learned something new!" Did you try any of these commands.... they surely don't work for me... But then it could be because I am a neophyte when it comes to crons. I tried to help, but it will be a cold day in hell before I will offer any further assistance to you and I hope the others follow suit. And for god sakes.. please don't make up bullshit commands and post them here to confuse others into thinking you can actually do this.. Again... if you provide a reference on this i will personally apologize to you... |

By the way.. I have read those 5 million pages and none of them have any such commands.. |

This might help since you don't understand crons.. enter any of the format above into the cron box and save it... it will immediately convert the command to 0 (zero) and auto remove it.. as this is not a valid recognized cron command.... when the / slash is used it is strictly used as below: */5 every 5 min */10 every 10 min... Never random anything a very specific time which will repeat itself over and over with no randomization. |
